Reasons Eloping Might Be Right For You

Making your wedding be completely about you is something that this industry and social media have started to gloss over. There's a million trends shown to you online every day and society pushes being the biggest and best. Well sometimes that just doesn't sit right in your gut at the end of the day, and that's not the feeling you need when you're planning the first day of the rest of your lives together.

There's been a surge in elopements in the past few years, and now you're wondering if this might be the right choice for you. You resonate with something small, simple and maybe a little adventurous. Elopements have made a transition from being a "secretive" wedding to being defined as a smaller, more intimate wedding that is typically in a non-traditional location. Although I can't make the call for you, I've listed some reasons why you might want to consider an elopement.

1. Guest List Overwhelm

You thought your guest list would be reasonable, but now your parents have added all their co-workers and your second cousins to the list. Suddenly you're not sure how you can invite one cousin and not the other. Keeping your list small, or no guests at all, helps to alleviate feeling like you're leaving some people out by leaving most people out.

2. Saving Your Dollars

Does spending a chunk of change on feeding 200 people make you want to scream? Do wedding venue rentals in your area cost as much as a car? Money is such an important factor when it comes to planning a wedding and can often dictate a lot of decisions. With inflation on the rise and people not making enough money, cutting numbers and choosing something more non-traditional (like getting married in your backyard for FREE) can really help with saving money.

3. Reduced Stress

Thinking about less people and their opinions will automatically reduce your stress levels. That's gotta be science, right? Maybe you have a huge family that you love, but juggling everyones' schedules is really intimidating when it comes to picking a date. Maybe your family has a lot of food allergies and it's feeling impossible to accommodate everyones' dietary restrictions. Sometimes it's just easier when it's the two of you to think about.

4. Logistics

You want to get married on the top of a mountain, but aren't sure how to get your Great Aunt Shirley up there. Part of the fun of planning an elopement is not being tied to tradition and being able to do the things that might have seemed a little "out there". If you're guest list is sitting at a big number, some locations or ideas won't work for those grand numbers.

5. Being Authentic To You

Your wedding is supposed to be about the two of you. So why not keep it that way at its core! If you're someone that doesn't like a lot of attention or spotlight, an elopement might be the right move for you. Elopements don't always have to mean it's just the two of you. Here at Michelle Kay Photography, our elopement package includes a guest list of up to 10 people.
